Removeable Prosthodontics

This area of dentistry involves the removable replacement of teeth in a full or partial form. There are 2 kinds of removable dental prosthesis that our office restores – partial dentures and full dentures.

Removeable Partial Dentures (RPD’S)

A removable partial denture is a good way to replace missing multiple teeth. It helps you chew your food properly and also offers support to your lips and cheeks.

A RPD usually has replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases connected by a metal framework. They may attach to your natural teeth with clasps.

Full Dentures

If you have lost all of your natural teeth, whether from periodontal disease, tooth decay or injury, complete dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile.

Benefits of teeth replacement include appearance and return of support to lips and cheeks, improvement in speech and overall health and ability to chew food.

The framework of the complete denture, called the base is generally made of gum colored acrylic plastic. The base of the upper denture covers the palate (roof of mouth) while the lower is shaped like a horseshoe to allow room for the tongue. The dentures are supported by the gum and bone tissues. A seal is created with a thin film of saliva, therefore, holding the dentures in place. Cheek muscles and the tongue also help keep the dentures in position.

Dentures can be held in place with dental implants.

They can be made to closely resemble your nature teeth, therefore maintaining your appearance and confidence about your self.
